We have a little on-running competition going within the group called 'Book Bingo'. The book bingo sheet contains the following categories:
- A crime novel
- A book and DVD
- A Fantasy book
- A non-fiction book
- An audio book
- A travel book
- A historical novel
- A classic
- A biography
- Reader's choice
- A recommendation from family or friends
- A children's book
As the title suggests, the first person to read one book from each category and have a 'full house' is the winner. So far, it is looking very likely that Mike is in the lead, will he be claiming his prize at the next meeting?!
We look forward to hearing your book bingo progress.
Sarah's Book Bingo Challenge
ReplyDeleteI have now completed the Book Club Bingo Challenge and I must say what an interesting challenge it turned out to be. I tried to choose books that are out of my comfort zone and decided to include one, or two books that I have always wanted to read but never got around to doing so. Here are the books and their respective scores:
A non-fiction book – The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks – Rebecca Skloot – 9.00
A book and DVD – No Country for Old Men – Cormac McCarthy – 9.00
A recommendation – Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand – Helen Simonson – 8.50
A classic – Therese Raquin – Emile Zola – 8.50
A crime novel – Started Early, Took my dog – Kate Atkinson – 8.00
An audio book – Alone – Lisa Gardner – 7.50
Reader’s choice – Blackbird House – Alice Hoffman – 7.00
A biography – Kate Adie – 6.00
A biography (2) 1966 and all that – Geoff Hurst – 6.00
A historical novel – Outlander – Diane Gabaldon – 6.00
A travel book – A Piano in the Pyrenees – Tony Hawks – 6.00
A children’s book – The adventures of Huckleberry Fynn – Mark Twain – 5.00
A fantasy book – The Golden Compass/Northern Lights – Philip Pullman – 3.00 (dire!!)

Well done and Congratulations on completing the Book Bingo Challenge Mike! (We all had no doubt that you would be the outright winner!!) I hope that overall you enjoyed the challenge, although I know there were one or two books you chose that you certainly wouldn't recommend! It is funny isn't it how people have such varying opinions of the same book. Northern Lights for example is loved by so many and yet you hated it. (I was not too keen either as it happens).
ReplyDeleteMy progress is much slower, I have completed 3 genres so far, but I am enjoying it and it has been fun deciding which books to read for which genre.
I shall post my choices once I have completed the challenge - in about a year's time I expect!
